Please find a gallery of aerials of the Somme battlefield I took in May and July 2012, either from a microlight or helicopter. Starting at La Boisselle the flights took in the southern part of the British advance extended northwards to the Ancre valley. A selection of images from the Arras battlefield. The Battle of Arras was launched on Easter Monday, 9 April 1917 and ran for 39 days. British and Commonwealth casualties were approximately 159,000 - this averages over 4,000 men killed, wounded or lost per day. Running from Vimy Ridge with its tremendous Canadian memorial in the north to the killing fields of Bullecourt in the south, the battlefield is well worth a visit.
